The Effects of Surface Area on Heat Capacity
The greater the temperature difference between two objects, the more rapidly conduction occurs. Surface area to volume ratio decreases as an object becomes more massive. Air is actually a very good insulator but it does not conduct heat well. For example, you're better putting a can or bottle of drink into an ice bucket than you are in a bucket of cold water. This will prevent energy from outside coming in and warming up your drink. And so your drink will actually warm up more quickly. Think of the old adage warm air rises.
