How to Imagine a Direct Democracy
The idea of the senate, even, this is a great example, in on the six year terms, was designed to produce gridlock. So how can one imagine new processes and technologies that enable those processes? We need something like the electoral college that bundles votes to make sure that folks from states with fewer populations have different kinds of proportional representations. There are versions of this that one could imagine enacting as democratic reform - i might vote for three people in order and divy up my vote proportionately across those three candidates.
