The Birth of Sir Arthur Ignatus Conan Doyle
Sir Arthur Ignatus Conan Doyle was born on this day back in 1859. He was a Scottish writer who was well known for the creation of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. His early life was reportedly sideswiped with tragedy, his father Charles died in 1893 after years of alcoholism and struggling with his mental health. After he graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and a Master of Surgery degree from the University of Edinburgh in 1881, he was ship surgeon on the SS Maemba during a voyage to the West African coast.
