If you're going to be studying a text from a culture, that it's really important that you understand the language and you understand the civilization that made it. People who don't know the cultural context of the thing they're commenting on then reading the text is not good. And also there's the idea that, like, they take things that are suposd to be sort of artistic and read them in the same way. But they were written with different things in mind, with different ideas and different reasons.
