Socrates didn't write anything. The most interesting philosophical material is what Plato represents to us. It's difficult to... supposing you thought about this in terms of Shakespeare. There are two questions that you might ask yourself. Whether we can actually talk about what Hamlet believes at all, like whether we can talk about how many children Lady Macbeth had because Socrates in Plato is a fictional character. Well, the problem is that we have other testimonials to Socrates, but in a sense they're more unsettling than it would be if we didn't have them.
