Ecological Firewalls for Synthetic Biology

Kedat Amalah: The question that she seems to always get from people is how do we avert a kind of Michael Kriton scenario, you know, an Andromeda strain or Jurassic Park type thing. She says the few things we know is that if you release something, some genetically modified strain in nature, it dies immediately. And because bio diverse ecosystems are able because bio diverse is a firewall to invaders. So what happens with unintended consequences? We don't want to predict, we'll have this ecosystem; we want us to provide the source of making biodiversity to keep their running.

Different environmental variables call for different strategies in individual and collective cognition — what defines the threshold at which so-called “solid” brains transition into “liquids”?
