How to Play a Quote in Jazz

In Lee Morgan's second chorus, he plays what's called a quote. A quote is basically when you're improvising and then suddenly you play something else. This type of quote is actually maybe the most arcane type of jazz quote. Clifford Brown played that same line four years earlier with his quintet on a tune called Jour Du. He was one of the greatest jazz trumpet players who ever lived.
