The Battle of the Prussian Tally-Rand

Prussian king Frederick William III was pulled in two different directions by the pro-French and anti-French factions. Two rival centers of power within Prussia's diplomatic establishment made the country's foreign policy even less coherent. The rivalry between Count Christian von Haugavitz and Prince Carl August von Hagenberg became so intense that they were sometimes more interested in undermining each other than working towards the national interest.
