The Importance of Representation in Hip Hop

The moral position of hip hop seems to be just as important as, for instance, the forms it takes and so on. One of the things I'm really conscious of is about the ways in which artists have used if you like the strategies of hip hop. Rashi Johnson chose Rakeem from Eric B. and Rakeem because his attitude inspired him. What we're really talking about here is also just the notion of representation, who has the gaze and who has the power to hold our gaze.
