How Can Green Washing Harm the Environment?
By making false claims, companies can sell products that are not environmentally friendly at a higher price. A company may promote its product as being biodegradable or compostable but if the product is not properly disposed of, it can harm the environment. Green washing can also lead to the continuation of wasteful production practices. And green washing can contribute to a lack of action from companies to make real and meaningful changes. Instead of investing in sustainable initiatives, like using renewable energy, companies might just continue being wasteful.
