Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch is a wonderful example of how an author is playing with competency of these different characters. The third in the Gentleman Bastard series, which is basically heist movies in a fantasy world. We've been waiting three books now for Sabbath to appear. She's this almost mythological person from their past. And when she shows up, Scott Lynch hits it out of the park with her.
