Steely Dan: The Anti-Grateful Dead

I feel like there's a level of playfulness and just sort of who gives a shit in their lyrics that I don't hear any trace of in the music. And wow, it occurs to me that Steely Dan is the anti-grateful dead. They sound really good live. Like they sort of like Donald the Walter would tell you in interviews and, you know, have that like, they weren't getting what they wanted on stage and they couldn't hear themselves or all that. But yeah, if you listen to them playing Bodhisattva every night in 1974 or whatever, it's an exciting band to listen to.
