Is There a Home for the Ukraine Scheme?
Toughening the law doesn't deter crossings, it just forces smugglers into longer and more dangerous routes. According to Sky Over the Weekend, there are 4,295 Ukrainian families who are homeless in the UK now. There may well be tensions over this because people on council waiting lists will not like it if they see Ukrainians being housed when they are not. That is a potential tinderbox, which I don't think people are quite facing up to.
