Fernicii was not cavalier about western society moving on without god. He is afraid that if we don't find the alternative of to god, and specifically god is revealed in christ, the end will be the yawning abyss of nihilism. The last men are incurious, entertainment adult utilitarians who desire nothing more out of life than a bit of prosaic happiness. Nichi thinks that this commitment to actually loving everyone is keeps humanity ignoble and weak. And he wants to cast that aside and have i and have the the ubermans, the superman, the overman.
