The Impact of Rising Mortgage Rates on the Housing Market
There are nearly 11 million mortgage homes in Britain, but some of those are by to let mortgages or second-home mortgages. The resolution foundation used data from the Office for National Statistics' Wealth and Asset Survey - which doesn't include Northern Ireland. They think just more than half of the seven and half million households who have a mortgage have already come off their previous fixed rate. And so we think there's another half, maybe just less than a half, to come in the next few years. We've only seen about two-fifths of the total increase in repayments coming through already.
