Hoarding as a Pathology
The most famous hoarders are the collier brothers who were New Yorkers in the mid 19th century. The two often go hand-in-hand to a certain extent no one really knows whether that's because of a kind of embedded shame of the act of hoarding or if it was just part of their personality. They became the archetypal hoarders and again I think it's sort of striking that they're traced to this post-industrialization 19th century moment where you could collect pianos.
