The United Nations says that as of mid-December, it's been able to verify the deaths of 6,755 civilians. Putting firm numbers on military deaths is also difficult with neither side willing to give official numbers for casualties. Olga Ivshina and her colleagues at the BBC Russian Service have been keeping a tally of the numbers of Russian troops killed in the conflict. At the moment, we have confirmed the names of 10,000 Russian soldiers who were killed.
