God's Vision Is to Overcome the World
God's vision is to have communities that can overcome and model hope regardless of the hellscape they find themselves within. The Japanese had an honor culture which means they would rather die than surrender. Christian, non-Christian, did not matter; it was a kind of social Darwinianism. God says this, death was still with us, no doubt about it, but we were slowly being freed from its destructive grip.
