Childhood Cancer and the Progression to Cancer

The progression to cancer is not simply flipping a switch, it's typically the accumulation of multiple mutations. Cancer occurs from environmental exposures to these cells over time. If a cell develops a series of mutations and its no longer behaving appropriately, normally they die nd. But sometimes these cumulative mutations occur, and our immune system, or the cancer cell itself does not die. And so when that happens, now you have the start of cancer as we know it.
