The traditional way of performing a prostate biopsy to rule out prostate cancer is by a transrectal approach. This is an office-based procedure that takes about two to three minutes. It's generally not painful, it just feels like they're getting their prostate checked. Risks of that procedure are bleeding, which is generally pretty mild and holding blood thinners for a period of time in those patients.
