The Last Changbang Gift by Jamie Gaugh

A Chinese belief that it's unlucky to arrive in the afterlife empty-handed, so the living will craft or purchase gifts for the dead. A lot of Jamie's fiction has an amalgamation of Chinese dialects or has Malay folded into the dialogue. The story is called The Last Changbang Gift, and it was originally published in Lightspeed magazine.
