The Edict of Tolerance in France

The Edict of Tolerance was issued by the crown two years earlier. The church owned roughly 10% of French lands and collected another 10% tithing fees from really anyone they could. Until 1789 being anything other than Catholic in France was illegal, meaning openly practicing Protestants or anybody else couldn't live in France without arrest.
