What Is the Interest in Biography?

Biography is an attempt to understand a person. Understanding the person can be a way into understanding their work. One needn't regard biography aso, so to speak, a handmaiden for something else. For philosophy or for physics. We want to understand ourselves. And i think really, at bottom, the interest in biography is tied to that general obligation we all feel to understand ourselves and people around us.
