Switzerland, especially zurich and geneva, became the first basis of reformed protestantism. Other cantons remained roman catholic. The two eventually went to war. This is what killed richwingli, one of the great reforming protestant theologians. And so although it was not devastated to the same degree as italy, it did end up again becoming a kind of pawn for larger power plays.
