The Importance of Latin in the Development of Polite Society

When did Latin become the permissible lingua franca in all this? I think some of the words for parts of female anatomy like vulva like cervix come in as medieval writers are translating Latin textbooks. And we see that process of euphemism. That's one of the things that takes some of these rather plainer, earlier words kind of gently out of circulation.
