Nordhouse attaches a very simple model of climate change and plugs that in via sotof base line part of the model. The assumption being that costs closer to us have a greater weight in our decision making. We discount the future at this or that rate to tell us how might prioritize interventions in the climate system. Overtime, nordhouse's discount rate is quite a bit higher,. which means the future is less valuable than many, many people would feel comfortable with.
