The troubles started at the end of the sixties and beginning of the seventies. But m really it goes back even further than that. In particular, in the north of ireland, around ulster, a bunch of protestant, english and scottish people kind of settled there over the years. And so over time, you've got this largely gaelic population inhabiting the central and south part of ireland. It's remarkable that it lasted like this for, you know, several centuries before it finally came to at the beginning of the twentieth century.
In the early 1980s, imprisoned IRA members went on a prolonged hunger strike, leading to the death of ten men. This is their story.
