Ezekiel wants Jews to know that God is still ruling over everything, no matter if there is a temple or not. This is why the temple imagery is borrowed and it's why the faces are what they are. You go to Revelation 4, it has a very strong correlation with Ezekiel, especially Ezekiel 10 when you get to the animal imagery. John says after this I looked and behold, the door is standing open in heaven.
