The Impossibility of Life After Death
I'm not clear where this leaves us in relation to people who have religious beliefs about the possibility of life after death. Well the view I favor actually is consistent with that but doesn't require it. It then becomes an open question whether or not a life directionality requires material embodiment. But just to see why I favor this sort of view let's go back to where we began. When we focused on the body we helped ourselves to something we weren't entitled to namely what it was for one body to be the same through time. Now look at that way we can see that when we elevated the psychological criterion too far we ignored the normal material embodiment of persons.
