Alfred sees screaming as a harmless way to create an environment where he can elicit extreme reactions. He delightedly reflects that it's the faces around him look like the faces of fellow passengers on a plane heading directly into the sea, and he's elated. "What happens if you want to always see unmediated reactions? That can become a kind of compulsion unto itself"
