Watkins: A lot of people have recently expressed their worries about becoming powerful and almost, in a sense, becoming sentient. He says the long term impact depends on whether it can be controlled at all. Watkins: I believe that human beings are smart enough to make sure we don't put inadequate safeguards around systems where we let machines make decisions. But the larger philosophical question remains, and i don't have an answer to that," he said.
