The Life and Times of Richard Hargreite

Richard Hargreite was the youngest of seven children in his family. As a teenager he became apprenticed to a barber and wig maker before setting up his own shop down in Bolton. He developed a new dye for wigs that allowed them to be washed without losing color, which in 18th century fashion was a big deal. At one point he befriended a clockmaker named John Kay at a tavern who told him about Thomas Heis' spinning machine.
