Between 1957 and 1996, somewhere between 100 to 150 nuclear reactors went online across the United States. The first large scale commercial nuclear reactor went online just two years later in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. In 1954, Lewis Strauss then head of the Atomic Energy Commission, he says that nuclear would bring energy abundance and electricity that was too cheap to meter. That's quite a promise.
