The truism that education is a mechanism for reducing inequality and poverty is simply taken for granted in liberal and conservative circles alike. On its face, it makes sense, as you write about and talk about a lot. But on a mackerel level, this premise begins to break down. And so we can see the growth of education is both a form of social mobility for those groups that got it but also essentially kind of a union busting or an attempt to control work force through new ways.
