Shirley Chisholm - The First Woman and First Black Person to Become President of the United States
In 19 72, shirley chisholm became the first woman and first black person to seek the nomination for president of the united states on a major party ticket. In congress she worked to pass laws that would help people who she felt had been given a seat at the table. She also helped create the congressional black caucus so that congress could better represent the interests of black Americans.
