What Does It Mean to Be an African Scholar?

Post colonia studies have shown Jane austin's sensitivity to certain things that are happening in her world, which she doesn't always name directly. Soi'm curious about what all this means for you. You've spent your whole career basically teaching at western universities. What does it mean to be an african intellectual working primarily in the west, but also engaged in all these cultural and political debates about africa? It has always, again, been a paradox. I think i've done whatever i could to promote scholarship and knowledge on africa in the united states and in europe. But of course, what i realized at one point i wasn't doing as much for scholarship in africa
