The Importance of Empathy

Douglas Stewart visited the Louisiana Literature Festival in 2021, where he was interviewed by Sunil Ifia. He says Scotland is "a heavy drinking nation" The line between addiction and just drinking was perhaps a bit more blurred for him than other writers. When I started the book at 32, I was a different man than I was when I finished at 42. And so this is probably the best reason why this is such a wonderful novel. It's that you've lived with the characters, if you've understood them, we understand them.
