Lady Jane remembers the Queen was eventually asked and of course she had the final word. She didn't think it should be televised and if it she agreed with the government but then I think on reflection she thought so few people would see her that she will empty it. The news led to thousands of people rushing out to buy a TV and Lady Jane's family was no exception. We'd never ever had a television before. In fact my father bought one a month earlier as soon as he knew that I was scheduled beyond it.
