How Do You Assess Per Personality?
The two main approaches to assessing personality traits are either through a survey questions or through some kind of observation. It turns out that asking someone who knows the animal well is a lot more effective than behavior assessments. Assessing person is really challenging, one of the reasons we have to have ou really large sample sizes in order to overcome the noise and pick the signal. By the way, obviously if we'd had to pay experts to go into people's homes and assess dogs, we would not have a 19, 800 dog cohort for this paper.
