Researching Companies Outside of Company Filing, Right?

A lot of my understanding of some company in an industry is usually by comparing it to peers. It's easier to get information that way sometimes than to get a lot of information, which, you know, is specific. So when i gave the john wiley example, it's easier for them to give examples of how they make decisions about what academic publishing things to subscribe to. But basically it is a a banks and publishers and things like that still exist.
