70, 80% of warnings don't actually come before a tornado. The heart of it is actually kind of simple. Tornadoes come from thunderstorms but meteorologists can look at two thunderstorms and one will produce a tornado and the other one won't. So what do scientists know about how tornadoes form? We talked to Robin Tanamachi who knows everything there is to know about tornadoes.
2023 has been a record-setting year for tornadoes, and these storms came with barely any warning. So to better understand tornadoes, scientists might need to confront more of these storms head-on.
