Liszt's pieces with these fancifully titled atudes and big pieces with poetry attached as prefaces, and allusions to opium dreams and psychadelic and hallucinatory ideas. All of this was coming out in this very fanciful music that he was presenting straight to the public. Liszt tried to become the paganini of the piano. Paganini being the great violinist who was likened to mephistopheles because of his demonic way of playing the violin.
