The Importance of Threading in Computers
In many ways, this is in fact quite like what computers do. They just do it at a much faster time scale. By hopping around from thing to thing, nimbly enough and quickly enough, it can create this wonderful illusion of simultaneity. But as anyone who has used computers in the last 50 years can attest, sometimes this breaks down and we end up staring at the hourglass or the spinning beach ball of doom. The biggest pitfall for a system that's managing a multitude of threads is what's called thrashing.
