What Is the Son of God?
Paul is talking about a gospel that was promised beforehand, and he has in view the promised serpent crusher. He surveys the three essential evidences concerning the son of god. Because man adam brought sin and death into the world, a man jesus would be required to remove it. And because mankind is under the law, we needed a saviour to come in the form of a man and fulfil the law. For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of abraham. Therefore, he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of god.
