The Importance of the Source of the Archaeological Data

Pep would regard historical record veryvery valuable if you can really claim your finding as the source. That makes a lot of sense. And it seems like yet there are real benefits and drawbacks to having that as a source of information. Because you risk reading every bit of archaeological that you find through the lens of these much later written sources. But at the same time, you don't want to discount them entirely, because it's probably not like their making things up. So you end up in this weird space where you can take the hypercritical approach, but then you risk limiting your understanding of your archaeological data.
