The Importance of Sacrifices in the Ancient Israelites
The first quarter of Leviticus relates in gory and unflinching detail, the unending sacrifices that the Israelites must make to Yave. Sacrifices also play a huge part in the religions of the Canaanites and served as a system of taxation. All else was a matter of universal morality, but not fit for divine legislation. As I'll discuss in the next episode, the Holiness Code radically extends that idea.
