I personally think that velaskus dignifies philip. And i don't just mean in the portraits, my feeling is that he dignified the king just by his own presence and their conversation together. There's an immense refinement and tact and extraordinary degree of insight and respect in everything that velascas paints. I can't help imagining philip, who is known to have given him much longer sittings than he gave any other artist,. Many people painted philip the fourth because he wanted to talk.
