Introduction

Jim Collins is a professor of biological engineering at MIT. He's affiliated with the Broad Institute and the Wiss Institute. His group is mostly known for its work on systems biology, that is studying interactions in molecular biological networks. From 1990 to 2014, he was a professor at Boston University at the Department of Biomedical Engineering. And together with Charles Cantor and Tim Gardner, Jim constructed a genetic toggle switch which essentially founded the field of synthetic biology.
