The Myth of Ragnarok

During the Roman era, Scandinavia was heavily farmed and fairly well populated. But by the mid-500s something had changed dramatically. There was a large drop in population, maybe as much as 50%. In some places such as on Gotland, almost the entire population disappeared. The current theory is that it stemmed from a series of enormous volcanic eruptions in the 530s and 40s.
