Exceeding Authorized Access
A former georgia police sergeant, nathan van buren, used his patrol car computer to access a data base and retrieve information about a particular license plate in exchange for money that he had been paid by a third party. He was charged with exceeding authorized access under 18 us c ten 38 two. The term, again, is defined as accessing a computer with authorization and to use such access to obtain or alter information in the computer that the accessor is not entitled to so obtain or alter.
